Living Beyond…

with Martha Van Dam

My guess is that either you or a loved one is dealing with some kind of trauma. If this is true, help is very near. Inside the pages of this website, you will find helpful information as well as programs designed to bring not only comfort and encouragement, but something even better, tangible help.

In working with multitudes of clients over the years I have noticed that the vast majority of those clients have faced some kind of trauma in their lives…often even multiple traumas.

Upon further reflection, I have found that most of the people I meet have dealt with at least one, or some combination, of the following three traumas:

  1. the staggering pain of betrayal in an intimate relationship,
  2. the shock, alarm and fear of a cancer diagnosis for themselves or someone they love, and/or
  3. the continued disappointment of failing at losing weight or developing healthful eating habits.

Each of these traumas, although notably unique, are the kinds of experiences that can knock us to our knees. I’m here to help you get back up. You have already taken the first step by looking online to find some relief. You knew you had a problem and you set out to find a way to make it better, even if you didn’t know that’s what you were doing. The next step will be to formulate a plan. That’s where I come in. I have already designed plans for getting back up in the midst of these three traumas, and once you have a plan, you are well on your way to success.

The situations that may have knocked you down are painful, but finding the strength, guidance and encouragement to get back up and move forward with confidence will be priceless.

I have had SEVERAL therapists in the last 8-10 years. I have started and quit more times than I can count. I have been seeing Martha for going on 5 years and am very happy with my experience. I have never been able to talk to anyone so open and freely without fear of being judged. I feel like I have finally started making progress in the craziness that is call life. I can’t even imagine where I would be mentally or I guess even physically without her help. If you are looking for a therapist that truly cares, one you can be open and honest with and who will tell it like it is…. Look no further.

My heart was broken into a million pieces and the path to healing seemed miles long. I needed help and Martha was there for me. She helped me navigate my healing journey and offered constructive compassion, helpful guidance and a safe place to talk, to cry and to vent. My wounds have healed, and although I still have some scars (who doesn’t!) I have learned to find peace and joy in my life. I couldn’t have done it without Martha’s help and support.

On May 20th 2013 I realized I needed help. I was addicted to intravenous drugs and anything else I could get my hands on. I had tried Narcotics anonymous and therapy over the years but I just kept failing. From the moment I contacted Martha she went above and beyond. She showed me that it wasn’t enough for me to know that I was an addict. I needed to understand why I was an addict and deal with the underlying issues that drove me into my addiction. It was the toughest thing I’ve ever done but she was there for me every step of the way. She has worked with me to overcome my addiction, deal with my crippling anxiety and to accept and love myself as I have been diagnosed with several chronic illnesses. She has been one of the biggest blessings I have ever received. I can never thank her enough for helping me save myself.
